Symbolic of the universe
It is hard to dislike the amazing mandalas as they hold within the symbolic of the whole universe. The most interesting part of drawing mandalas, or creating them with another media is that the process of creation is what counts. If you have ever watched Buddhist monks when they work in progress designing real sand mandalas, you would be amazed. They spend hours, days and even weeks filling in minuscule sections of a large circle bit by bit, just to destroy the fabulous creation within seconds. The message behind the process is learning humility by presenting the impermanence of life. The artist Shanthi Sridharan may not be a Buddhist monk but is certainly a mandala virtuoso. Just check below the magnificent mandala kolams.
