The Fast and the Furious was so well received that seven sequels and two short films have been released subsequently. The films have been distributed by Universal Pictures and with time have become the studio’s biggest franchise. In fact, The Fast and the Furious is nowadays considered the sixth-highest grossing film franchise ever.
The franchise’s main character, Dominic Toretto, better known as Dom, who is played by the actor Vin Diesel is an ex-convict and a street racing pro. As is fit for a racing enthusiast, Dom is constantly trying out new cars. And, as you can imagine, with eight installments in the franchise, Dom has tried out and raced numerous cars. Our favorite, and most impressive cars, are outlined below!
15. 1970 Dodge Charger
The 1970 Dodge Charger has appeared in a number of The Fast and Furious films, including The Fast and the Furious, Fast & Furious, Fast Five and Furious 7. The car was manufactured by Chrysler in 1970 and the model has since been discontinued.
“I used to drag here back in high school. That railroad crossing up ahead’s exactly a quarter mile away from here. On green, I’m going for it.”
The 1970 Dodge Charger was built by a young Dominic and his father and was kept in the garage of the Toretto house. While Dom is afraid of the car at first (due to his father’s death in a car race accident), he eventually becomes the main driver of the car.
In the films, the 1970 Dodge Charger is used for pursuit, racing, standard driving and even for freeing Dom out of a prison bus.
14. 2010 Dodge Charger SRT-8
The 2010 Dodge Charger SRT-8 was manufactured by Dodge and appears in one of The Fast and Furious films, Fast Five. In fact, it is not only one but two Dodge Chargers that appear in the film – one is driven by Dom and the other one is driven by his friend and colleague Brian O’Conner. Both cars are used for a vault heist.
Both cars had a number of upgrades carried out on them, including an internal roll cage, Chassis reinforcement, rear-section cage, heavy duty winch, nitrous oxide system and XD Rockstar wheels. The cars also received a coating of flat matte black paint.
13. 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Sting Ray
While the 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Sting Ray, manufactured by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors, may look impressive it is actually considered a minor car in the franchise because it only appeared in one film – Fast Five.
“O’Conner! Let’s go get some cars.”
As you can probably guess, the model of the car was discontinued. Nowadays Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Sting Rays are very expensive because few models that are still in excellent condition remain in existence.
Believe it or not, but a real String Ray was actually used in the movie. Only the actors were allowed to sit in it, and it wasn’t allowed to be used for stunts – “We built and wrecked 10 matching replicas for about $40K each, consisting of Mongoose kits over C4 ’Vette chassis and 400hp crate engines.”
12. 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline
The 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline appears in The Fate of the Furious. The car has been produced by General Motors in 1950 and that particular model has since been discontinued. In the film, the 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline is used for general everyday use as well as racing.
In The Fate of the Furious, the 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline belongs to Dom’s cousin Fernando. However, a racer named Raldo attempts to tow away the car and Dom intervenes, challenging him to a race.
As you probably know, Dom wins the race but unfortunately the car is completely destroyed. To compensate for this loss, Dom gives his cousin his 1961 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe.
11. Plymouth Road Runner
The 1970 Plymouth Road Runner appeared in numerous films within the franchise, including Fast & Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7. The car was produced by Plymouth between 1968 and 1980. This particular model of the car has since been discontinued.
“Ask any racer, any real racer. It don’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning’s winning.”
In the films, the car has had many uses, the most notable use being racing. In Furious 7 for example, Dom sets off for Tokyo in order to bring back Han’s body. While in Tokyo Dom learns of Sean, Han’s protégé, and, as you probably know, challenges him to a car race.
10. 1970 Plymouth Barracuda
The Plymouth Barracuda was manufactured by Chrysler Corporation between 1964 and 1974. As with most cars that appear in The Fast and Furious franchise, the model has since been discontinued.
We first saw the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda in Fast & Furious 6, when Dom and his crew were pardoned for their crimes. Luke Hobbs, an agent of the Diplomatic Security Agency, came to give the crew their papers and saw the black 1970 Plymouth Barracuda sitting in the driveway.
Unlike most other cars in the franchise, the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda was never destroyed.
9. Dodge Charge Daytona
It’s hard to believe that the futuristic looking Dodge Charge Daytona was produced in 1969 by Dodge. For such an impressive car, it certainly does not get enough screen time. It appeared in only one installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise: Fast & Furious 6.
In Fast & Furious 6, Dom races the car in a street race with Letty. Later, Dom also uses the car during the tank chase in Spain.
“Show me how you drive, It’ll show you who you are.”
The impressive looking Dodge Charge Daytona actually received minor changes from the production team before it appeared on the screen – the car’s rear spoiler as well as its front nose were shortened.
8. 1968 Dodge Ice Charger
Another impressive car, the 1968 Dodge Ice Charger, was manufactured by Chrysler between 1968 and 1970. The model of the car has since been discontinued.
The 1968 Dodge Charger is deemed a minor car in the franchise and only appears in two films – Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious.
Dennis McCarthy, the man behind the cars in The Fast and Furious franchise, has recently stated in an interview that he believes the Dodge Charger to be the most impressive car in the franchise to this day – “With the engine set back two-feet, all-wheel drive, extended track width, 5-inch Magnaflow exhaust system, and studded tires, saying that this car is aggressive would be a massive understatement. Add in an EMP weapon and a turbine generator to power the device, Dom and his ’68 Charger are unstoppable!”
7. 1993 Mazda RX-7 FD
The 1993 Mazda RX-7 was manufactured by Mazda Motor Company. The car appeared in the first installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise, and, as is the case with most cars that appeared in the first few films, the model of the car has since been discontinued.
In the films, the car was used for everyday driving as well as for racing. Dom raced Brian O’Conner, Danny, and Edwin in this car and easily won the race.
“You are in my good graces, but you ain’t keepin’ your car.”

The FD car was actually designed after a Keith Imoto car and was supposed to come with a roll cage. However, Vin Diesel was unable to fit into the car with a roll cage and thus the production team had it removed.
6. 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT-8
The 2009 Dodge Challenger was manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and was driven by Dom in both Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6. As is almost always the case with Dom’s cars, it was primarily used for racing.
In Fast Five, Dom buys the car in the Canary Islands and at the end of the film uses it to engage in a race with Brian O’Conner who, for the purpose of the race, drove his Nissan GT-R.
In Fast & Furious 6, we see the movie open with a racing scene once again – Dom is racing his Dodge Challenger whereas Brian is racing his new Nissan GT-R. Brian wins the race, but we still think this car is pretty amazing.
5. 1973 Chevrolet Camaro RS-Z28 “F-Bomb”
The 1973 Chevrolet Camaro RS-Z28 F-Bomb was manufactured by General Motors and as you can probably guess, this particular model has since been discontinued. The 1973 Chevrolet Camaro is considered a minor car in the franchise in that it only makes an appearance in one film – Fast & Furious.
“I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their b*llsh*t. For those ten seconds or less, I’m free.”
In Fast & Furious, Dom steals the car from one of the antagonist’s Arturo Braga’s assistants and then rams the car into Braga’s leading assistant, Fenix Calderon, thus ending him.
The actual F-Bomb is in fact too rare and valuable to be used in a movie franchise and therefore The Fast and the Furiousproduction team has to make their own F-Bomb by using GM 300hp Crate engines.
4. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. It was produced in 1970, and as is the case with most earlier The Fast and the Furious cars, the model has since been discontinued.
The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle is considered a major car in the franchise and has appeared in numerous The Fast and the Furious installments, including The Fast and the Furious, Fast & Furious, and The Fate of the Furious.
Originally, the car was actually red but in Fast & Furious Dom stripped it off its original paint and repainted it grey before attending the audition race which was set up by the franchise’s antagonist Arturo Braga.
3. 1987 Buick Grand National
Manufactured by the Buick Division of General Motors, the Buick Grand National was produced in 1987 and its model has since been discontinued. This car is actually considered to be a minor car in that it only appears in one The Fast and the Furious film – Fast & Furious.
“I’m one of those boys who appreciates a fine body, regardless of the make.”
The 1987 Buick Grand National is used by Dom in Fast & Furious for the purpose of hijacking fuel tankers in the Dominican Republic.
Interestingly, The Fast and the Furious production team built eight of these Buick Grand National cars. All of these 8 cars had CNC slide brakes and Wilwood callipers installed in them for stunt purposes.
2. 2014 Dodge Charger SRT-8
The 2014 Dodge Charger SRT-8 was manufactured by Dodge. The model of the car, produced between 2011 and present day, is still in production. The 2014 Dodge Charger is a relatively minor car in The Fast and the Furious franchise and only appears in one film, Furious 7.
In Furious 7, the car is seen after Dom and his crew arrive to Abu Dhabi and manage to get their hands on a number of luxurious vehicles, including the 2014 Dodge Charger. The impressive looking car is driven by Dom himself with Ramsey, Dom’s crew member, sitting beside him.
1. 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX STi GH
The 2009 Subaru impreza WRX STi GH was manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries and this particular type of car model is still in production!
“A real driver knows exactly what’s in his car.”
The 2009 Subaru Impreza is considered a major car in the franchise. It appeared in Fast & Furious after Dom gave it to Brian O’Conner whose own car was destroyed. Brian thus used the 2009 Subaru Impreza for the remainder of the film.
The car’s performance modifications include Remus muffler and headers and Cobb exhaust pipes. Some of the appearance modifications that have been carried out on the car include 18” Enkei rims and a Veilside body kit.
