Sex sells, and this trend doesn’t project to end anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean sex appeal doesn’t evolve over time. For the past decade or so, pop culture has been flooded with big booty images and Americans have become obsessed with the derrieres of famous women in particular.
Kim Kardashian’s sex tape with singer Ray J was what sparked her fame, but it has been her incredibly rotund backside that has made her a constant figure in the public eye.
Although large boobs were always far more prevalent in Hollywood than big butts, every once in a while a woman came along and broke the mold. Marilyn Monroe, for example, was no stick figure, and became arguably the most prevalent sex symbol to ever live.
Nowadays, however, you don’t need to have the status of a Marilyn Monroe to become known for having a to die for backside. Social media works as a conduit for people to find, follow, and ultimately obsess over models they would have otherwise never heard of in the past.
If you have a big butt, and know how to work the heck out of an Instagram page, going from a relative unknown talent to a juggernaut with millions of fans within a year is far from unheard of as women all over the world regularly blossom into overnight celebrities by showcasing their booty online.
With so much attention being paid to the female butt nowadays, it was inevitable that researchers would eventually begin conducting studies to find out why many men — and some women — are so fascinated with them.
According to a PLoS ONE study, seeing a woman with a plump booty activates reward regions in the male brain that are also typically stimulated by drugs and alcohol, which causes an involuntary and unconscious attraction to the woman.
Moreover, not only are men said to be more attracted to women with big butts, but some researchers now claim women who fall into this category are healthier and smarter.
In a study conducted by the University of Oxford, which studied data obtained from 16,000 women, it was proven that the women with larger butts were not only more intelligent, but were surprisingly resistant to chronic illnesses.
“The idea that body fat distribution being important to health has been known for some time. However, it is only very recently that thigh fat and a large hip circumference have been shown to promote health; that lower body fat is protective by itself,” lead researcher professor Konstantinos Manolopoulous said.
Let’s be honest: Men find women of all shapes and sizes extremely attractive. And being smart has nothing to do with how you look.
But if having a bigger booty will improve your self esteem and confidence, you undoubtedly can obtain one with hard work and dedication as — unlike breasts, which can’t be naturally enhanced by hitting the gym — the human gluteus maximus is made of pure muscle, and responds rather well to exercise and sculpting.
Either way, it’s important to remember that women weren’t put on this beautiful planet of ours to visually please the masses. Do what makes you happy and forget about everyone else!
