We often carry around many preconceived notions about homelessness as a society, we often don’t think of these people, as real people. These people once were someone’s child or brother or sister, they held jobs, had hobbies and fell in love.
Donald Gould, a 51-year-old homeless former U.S Marine, played a moving version of “Come Sail Away” by Styx on an outdoor piano in Sarasota FL, which instantly went viral. Millions of people saw this video, which was completely moving in and of itself, but what many people don’t know is that this video did much more than just make Donald a internet sensation.
This video gave Donald a chance to be reunited with a child that he was separated from 15 years ago. “Music took me around the world before I was 21 and somehow, my music now has gotten me back together with my son,” Donald Gould told 24 Hour News 8. Gould’s son, Donny, did in fact see the video and becuase of it the two have been video conference ever since. It may not be the perfect happy endings, but its a start for Donald Gould and his son Donny.
Its amazing what a viral video can do.
