“The City” Miniworlds: Remnants of Imagined Natural Disasters

Miniature replicas of real spaces pictured with the consequences of a disaster

Conceived, designed, built and photographed
The project named simply and appropriately “The City” is a photography idea conceived, designed, built and photographed by Lori Nix and Kathleen Gerber. Both artists work together as a team making two of the post-catastrophic images in one year. The long-lasting series features miniature replicas of real spaces pictured with the consequences of a disaster.

Lori and Kathleen’s project started in 2005. They remade the space of bars, theaters, hallways, studios, laundry rooms, musical instrument shops and shoe retailers to resemble the aftermath of an apocalypse, resulting in hyper-realistic images that evoke sadness, raise consciousness and remind of the passage of time in life. While some disasters can definitely not be prevented, the Nix & Gerber project is an amazing way to grow appreciation and gratitude, and remember to keep an eye on man-made catastrophes.
