The bridge joins Drogden tunnel on the artificial island of Peberholm that is an interesting site on it’s own. The island was constructed from material dredged from the seabed and most of the 4 km tunnel was built by concrete elements cast on land and towed out and lowered into a dredged trench. With a result that more than 500 different species of plants were identified on the island.
The bridge opened in july 2000 and is an important transport route for the 3.7 million inhabitants surrounding it.
