One of Earth’s driest places turned into a beautiful pink oasis

Some parts of the desert got its first taste of rain

Something unexpected happened
Chile’s Atacama Desert is one of the driest places on Earth, but recently there happend something unexpected: it turned into an oasis of pink flowers. How could this happen? Due to heavy downpours in March some parts of the desert got its first taste of rain in almost seven years. This isn’t something that happens every year it’s a completely surprise even for the locals.

The Atacama Desert is now home to pink mallow flowers and 200 other plant species that started to bloom.

‘The intensity of blooms this year has no precedent’, said Daniel Diaz, National Tourism Service director in Atacama. ’And the fact that it has happened twice in the same year has never been recorded in the country’s history. We are surprised’.

This beautiful and rare phenomena is only witnessed in Utah, USA and Australia and now Chile..
