Volvo’s new child seat concept makes you actually want to have a child

Parents/car buyers do not have to sacrifice style for safety and convenience

“Family friendly” automobile
Most new parents face the reality of trading in their cool cars for more “family friendly” automobiles, aiming to provide a functional and safe transporting vehicle for the household’s newest additions. Usually honing in on bulky vans or moderate SUVs, some sought after features are room for easy loading in/out baby carrier, assurance that the precious cargo is always protected. Well, now designers at Volvo are making sure parents/car buyers do not have to sacrifice style for safety and convenience with the new concept for the XC90 model.

The Swedish automaker is introducing a very interesting feature with the new Child Seat Concept for this model, re-imagining the front passenger seat to be replaced with a raised platform for the child’s seat. The platform enables the child seat to rotate and slide forward and back, making load in and out a breeze. A supporting parent can sit in the back seat, tending to the child comfortably with storage underneath the platform for blankets, supplies and/or diaper bag.

Tisha Johnson, Chief Designer Interiors at Volvo Cars Concept and Monitoring Centre explains the concept that has not quite made it to the production line (yet), “We have been investigating the nature of progressive luxury for some time and we see a direct connection between luxury and emotional wellbeing. So we have taken the next step in redefining how the interior of a car can be used to suit our customers’ needs. We have always placed a great deal of importance on child safety, but this takes things to the next level.”
