The American Chemical Society has been researching the effects of tequila on blood glucose levels since last year, and has discovered that the sugar used in tequila actually drops your blood sugar levels. These sugars are called agavins.
With the help of some mice, researchers discovered that mice who drank water with agavins ate less overall and had lower blood sugar than the mice that drank water without agavins.
Another benefit is directed towards people with Type 2 diabetes – the agavins also produce something called GLP-1, which makes you less hungry and produces insulin.
