Arcaboard is a fan-powered hoverboard

Able to lift a person for a few centimeters above the ground

Challenge of recreating a hoverboard
After seeing Marty McFly’s hoverboard in “Back to the Future,” many creative minds have tried to take on the challenge of recreating such a thing in real life. But so far, we haven’t seen any real functioning hoverboards the what we hoped for. However, ARCA Space Corporation announced through a demo video the ArcaBoard – a hoverboard that seems able to lift a person for a few centimeters above the ground.

Based on what we see in the video, there is no doubt that the ArcaBoard resembles a flying skateboard, although it doesn’t seem very easy to pilot it. According to the company, the device uses 36 electric fans to reach 272 horsepower.

It is true that there is still much room for improvement on the ArcaBoard. Although it can already levitate, it is still looks very difficult to ride it or even just stand on top of it. However the ARCA Space Corporation seems very optimistic with the progress made so far:

“For the first time since the bicycle, automobile or airplane, the ArcaBoard is a revolutionary breakthrough for transportation. For the first time, every person will be able to fly anytime, anywhere. The world, your world, will change forever.”We must admit, ARCA’s hoverboard idea is quite interesting, differently from the ones we’ve seen so far, it seems to work anywhere, not requiring a specific surface to float on. What is definitely a downside is its price, though – US$20,000 is quite a high price to pay for a product that still looks like its in its development stage.
