Paramount Pictures and Disney set the village of colorful houses to resemble the scenes from the popular comic by E.C. Segar. All houses on the film setting were made to look like the real comic life of the spinach hero and his friends Olive Oyl, Bluto, Swee’Pea and Wimpy.
At the end of the shooting, the set was left as a gift to the locals, to serve as a film museum. It is now a major Maltese tourist attraction specialized for family entertainment.
Everyone now calls it just – Popeye Village, in the honor of its famous steel-muscled sailor inhabitant.
