Artist Tells Story from 16th Century Siam Through Photographs

The emperor’s high consort from the different dynasty

Cinematic approach
Originally from Bangkok, Thailand, Tatchatrin Choeychom is a portrait photographer based in Amsterdam. He loves giving his photography a cinematic approach, thereby forcing the viewer to analyse each photograph carefully in order to get the big picture and be able to tell the story behind it. In 2014, Tatchatrin created a project based on a real story, named it ”The Return of the Forgotten Emperor’‘ and told it in two chapters as can be seen below.

The description of the series reads: ”The unfolded story of loyalty, intrigue and betrayal is based on actual events in 16th century Siam.

The emperor’s high consort from the different dynasty. She plots her husband’s downfall, pushing her new lover to usurp the throne. Some might call it rebellion, but she did it all for one reason. To restore her clan. She successfully plotted the assassination of her husband, and brought her own dynasty back in power.”
