BMW reveals autonomous car on their 100th anniversary

The brand’s very first autonomous vehicle

Luxury automaker
BMW is celebrating its 100th anniversary by revealing the ‘Vision Next 100’, the brand’s very first autonomous vehicle. It anticipates the future of the brand, the last of the three German luxury automakers to introduce an autonomous car.

The model has a number of futuristic accessories like shape-shifting – which they call ‘alive geometry’, and two different driving modes – ‘boost’, which lets you drive with the help of augmented-reality and ‘ease’ which retracts the steering wheel and goes into complete autonomy. Without car panels, all necessary information is projected on the windshield. Its body is constructed out of a combination of carbon fiber and plastic. And the wheels are nothing like we’ve ever seen before, they are covered by the flexible bodywork which stretches when necessary to accommodate them.

Details on the mechanics of the car have not yet been disclosed, but it is almost certain that it should have an electric or hybrid powertrain, similar to the i family, which already includes the i3 and i8. Besides the Vision Next 100, the brand has already confirmed that three further concepts are expected to be introduced during their centennial, one from MINI, another from Rolls-Royce, and a final one from BMW Motorrad car.
