Art only as a hobby
Before he turned into a professional sculptor, Will Kurz used to be a landscape architect. Will was born in Flint, Michigan and he did art only as a hobby. Later in life, in his mid-thirties, Will decided to study art, received a fellowship and is now an eminent name in the United States and Canada. After practicing architecture for 25 years, he settled in Brooklyn, New Yorkto make awesome newspaper sculptures. He uses newspaper to symbolize the transient nature of life – just as the newspaper is fragile and short-lived. He sculpts people and animals – objects that are very often on society margins putting newspaper on an internal wire structure. Check out his grotesque, almost comic characters.
